The BitTorrent Acceleration Program: Supporting Startups

Screen Shot 2013-04-23 at 8.06.24 PM

Brave inventors, intrepid tinkerers, awesome doers, and startups everywhere: we’ve got a job for you.

Over the course of the past few months, we’ve been busy in the Lab. We’ve been hard at work on a solution for personal file management; opening up an Alpha version of BitTorrent Sync. We’ve been looking at ways to streamline creative collaboration; using a simple file delivery service we call SoShare. We’ve been exploring search prioritization; helping artists find visibility via BitTorrent Surf. And we’ve been experimenting with the storytelling and monetization potential of BitTorrent publishing; via content releases with media innovators: authors like Tim Ferriss, studios like Cinedigm.

Our goal is to create a more sustainable distribution model for the Internet’s creators and fans.

We’re in this together.

And we want your help.

We’re opening up our innovation lab to new media startups. If you have a publicly available product in sound, film, live streaming, media sharing, or peer-to-peer technologies, we’ll work with you to accelerate your idea’s success. Continue reading →

Download And Remix Alex Day

We’ve been working on ways for artists to connect with fans; experimenting with sponsored content distribution through the BitTorrent. We’ve been working on ways for artists to collaborate on assignments; beta projects like SoShare. And today, we’re working with Alex Day on ways for artists to collaborate with fans.

Alex Day’s album is out next week. So we’re releasing a free, ten-track collection from Epigrams And Interludes on BitTorrent. We’re also releasing all the stems via SoShare. Remix them. Build something amazing and unheard-of. Share them with the world. And share them back with Alex, by taggingthem #alexdayremixes. You’ve got thirty days from now to get them in. Winners will get a special shout out and swag from Mr. Day.

Test BitTorrent Sync (Pre-Alpha)

Sync App

We like it when things work together. So we’ve been working on a new distributed syncing product to help manage personal files between multiple computers.

Today, BitTorrent Sync is in a pre-Alpha stage. And we’re hoping that users like you can help us build something sick. If you’re comfortable using early, incomplete software, and if you’re committed to helping us figure out a better way to sync, we want to hear from you.

We’re opening up enrollment in our pre-Alpha program to a limited number of testers. If you’re interested, check out the Labs page, fill out an application, and we’ll get you started.

Check out BitTorrent Sync.

Welcome To The Lab

We believe in an open Internet. One where innovation belongs to all, and not some. One where creators and coders are given options. Not rules. Those are lofty statements and big ideals. But here’s a small step in that direction.

Today, we’re opening up BitTorrent Labs. It’s an Alpha site for our Alpha projects – all the stuff we’re working on that’s still in early concept phases. We’re inviting anyone (everyone) to experiment with these projects. And we’re inviting anyone (everyone) to build on them, and build their own. BitTorrent Labs is the new home for Torque, a JavaScript interface to torrent clients, designed for web developers.

So, come check out our Labs. We’ve got a few experiments up and running: from Surf, just released as an Alpha in the Chrome Store, to Sync, a brand-new file-syncing pre-Alpha. We’re looking for brave test users, for broadcasters, and builders. Come make stuff with us.

Experiment with BitTorrent Labs.
