Calling All Broadcasters

Do you have a Ustream channel? A justin.tv following? A webcam, and a dream? Do you want to help invent the next generation of live streaming? Cool. We’re looking for people like you.

BitTorrent Live is a new peer-to-peer live streaming protocol. Built with users, from scratch, it’s designed to take the principles of the BitTorrent protocol, and apply them to streaming. That means: no barriers to broadcast. That means: the more people that tune in, the more resilient your stream. That means: you can share video with a massive audience, in realtime – without bandwidth costs or infrastructure requirements.

We’ve been conducting regular tests with users (props to our intrepid volunteers), and have achieved results at swarm sizes of a few thousand. Now, we’re inviting qualified broadcasters like you to help us build something amazing. Care to join us?

Tell us a little bit about you and your broadcast needs. We’ll let you know when and how you can get started with BitTorrent Live.

OK, but.. the version 64 bits for Ubuntu is a i386 :S

  2. I just submitted this for NASA to consider while building their new website (they are currently asking people for suggestions). Perhaps if we all upvote it, it will get more attention to BitTorrent Live even if it doesn’t get accepted.

No link to the client source on live.bittorrent.com? How am I supposed to run this thing?

And, since you’re going to say “we’ll provide source when it’s ready” — software is never finished — you should release the software under whatever license you’re going to (BSD/MIT/GPL/whatever) and let the porters get started making it work on our esoteric, arbitrary platforms.

  4. A download starts at the very moment I visit the site? What’s this, 1994?

Other than that it’s always great to see people pushing technology forward, keep it up!

  5. Randall says:

Is there any way to do something like bittorrent but make it a webstandard? I just don’t get how this is usable if it requires a browser plugin.

  6. Astro says:

Is there any documentation on the protocol extensions?

  7. Mike says:

Just filled out the app, we would looooove to be apart of the test group.

  8. sersh says:

hope this grow up, tanx bittorrent guys!
