New Music: 80 Proof Brings Rock/Reggae Mix to BitTorrent (FB Like the contest page to vote!)

One of our favorite bands, 80 Proof (a six-piece eclectic rock/reggae band from Southern California), is a finalist in KROQ’s Cabo Wabos Your Shot to Rock contest, which wraps up this Friday. And just in time, the band is releasing a selection of awesome songs directly to YOU.

The app is now live in the App Studio/Find Content to download their music. If you think they are as talented and worthy as we do, please make sure to “like” their contest page to cast your vote! We think 80 Proof has what it takes to win.

Though new to the scene, 80 Proof has undoubtedly found a sound and stage personality that instantly resonates with everyone who encounters them.  Since coming together they have been invited to play with national acts such as Pato Banton and headline high profile events including the Girls Gone Wild reality show filming in Fullerton, CA.

Being a top ten finalist in KROQ and Cabo Wabo tequila’s Your Shot to Rock Contest is already a huge accomplishment. Thousands of bands submitted to KROQ’s search for up-and-coming talent in the southern California area. The winner of the contest will perform at Kat Corbett’s Locals Only Show, as well as perform on the KROQ Locals only Stage at Lobster Fest in September!

We love to support a new generation of bands who are using innovative and progressive techniques to distribute their music and embrace their fans. These guys are awesome, and we’re humbly asking the BitTorrent community to give them a hand and help make them a success.

Check them out and don’t forget to vote!

FILM: ‘A Lonely Place for Dying’ Part One Premieres on BitTorrent

As you know, we’ve been working with a variety of incredibly progressive, innovative filmmakers for the past few months – all working to define the future of indie film distribution.

Independent filmmakers have always been on the cutting edge – taking risks on new film techniques, pushing the boundaries and trying new things long before the mainstream.

Today, we’re very excited to be a part of a very special film release with our friends at VODO. A Lonely Place for Dying is an action-packed Cold War spy thriller with an awesome cast (including Academy Award nominee James Cromwell). It’s the kind of film that takes the chances and nails it. And part one is now available for you to download, free. Check it out…

In addition to Cromwell, A Lonely Place for Dying stars Michael Wincott, Michael Scovotti and Ross Marquand. The film challenges conventional wisdom by placing character development and well-crafted dialogue side-by-side with gun battles, fist fights and aerial bombing raids. It’s an art house action film and an intelligent popcorn crowd-pleaser all rolled into one motion picture. It’s what every summer movie should be; smart, fun, gripping, nail-biting and emotional. The film has been honored at festivals across the globe and praised by both critics and audiences alike. The film has been an official selection of 38 festivals and received 45 award nominations while winning 19 including 14 awards as Best Picture. A complete list of awards is available here.

The plot:

It is 1972. An abandoned Mexican prison sits alone in the dusty Chihuahua desert. KGB mole Nikolai Dzerzhinsky waits for his contact from the Washington Post. Dzerzhinsky holds explosive evidence against the CIA; information he will trade for asylum in the United States. Special Agent Robert Harper must obtain this evidence and kill Dzerzhinsky or risk the end of his CIA career. As the two men hunt each other they discover that the sins from their past destined them for this deadly confrontation.

Download the torrent, or find the film in the special A Lonely Place for Dying app in the App Studio or Find Content sections of your µTorrent or BitTorrent software.
