Friday Download: The Internet’s Own Boy
2014/06/28

A new documentary examines the life and work of Aaron Swartz, and the digital freedoms worth fighting for. In partnership with the filmmakers: a first look.

Every conversation about the Internet’s post-surveillance, post-neutrality days is heavy and haunted. The web we built has been, in some ways, fundamentally lost. The toll the FCC is debating isn’t a service fee. It’s creativity, expression, change. It’s human.

Brian Knappenberger’s Kickstarter-funded film, The Internet’s Own Boy, documents the life and loss of Aaron Swartz. The Internet activist pioneered groundbreaking work in social justice, education, and politics. But Aaron’s quest to free information led to federal indictment and a 2-year legal battle that ended in his suicide.

The Internet’s Own Boy is Aaron’s story. It’s a vibrant, complicated portrait. It is also a call to action. This is what’s at stake. And this is worth fighting for. The documentary is out in theaters today. In partnership with ro*co films, we’re making the first 20 minutes of The Internet’s Own Boy available to all. Download the BitTorrent Bundle, and share Aaron’s story.

About BitTorrent Bundle

BitTorrent Bundle is an Alpha project, made with and for the web’s creative community. Our mission is to help artists connect directly with fans, inside the content they share.

Each BitTorrent Bundle allows artists to distribute content directly to the Internet. And each Bundle comes with a key. Fans can unlock artist content with an email address. The idea is to make each song a storefront, and each file more valuable, each time it’s shared. Got ideas for the next BitTorrent Bundle? Hit us up.
