Transformers, Politics, R. Kelly, Alzheimers, and The Simpsons

In these sensitive times, it’s quite easy to get into heated arguments. Personal views can turn the closest of friends and family into bitter enemies making Christmas dinners and Mothers Day brunches tainted war zones. But there’s one topic that everyone knows needs to be handled with delicacy. I’m talking of course about the Transformers and Simpsons movies.

Transformers
Transformers was amazing. I mean, everything Michael Bay has done in the past has been a car accident of a plane crash of a derailed train of a movie. With a track record including Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys (One AND Two), and Armageddon, he’s about as trustworthy as R. Kelly at a middle school dance. But for once Michael Bay came through! The film had tons of action, two dimensional porn style plot and cheesy appeals to children reminiscent of the old show (yes, that was all meant as a compliment)! Sure Michael Bay did the sacchrine dialogue dripping in sap and the “America is awesome” bullshit, but he kept it to a minimum. It had plenty of inside jokes for the hardcore nerds, but was Hollywood enough for people in the Mid-West, and all in all was hell of a good time.

Simpsons
Then there’s The Simpsons movie. I’d like to call it a disappointment, but for something that’s been shaking the death rattle for about five years, it’s hard to say it’s unexpected. Aside from some cheap laughs and a couple reasonably thoughtful scenes, it was pretty weak. I was going to give solid examples filled with clever responses and insightful rhetoric to back my opinion, but I can’t even think about what the hell happened in it! The flick was that memorable.
