Moby & The Void Pacific Choir Release Powerfully Human “These Systems Are Failing”
2016/09/23

In the fourteen years since Moby released his first album, and in all the years before that when he was a punk kid who wore a Joy Division pins in his high school yearbook photo, he has been many things.

He’s released twelve solo project that have spanned the sonic range from early electronic to acoustic ambience. He’s written, produced and remixed for everyone from Metallica to Britney Spears, sold millions of albums and called for the RIAA to disband. He’s been an author and a photographer and an activist and a restaurateur and all of those things at the same time, which is just another way of saying he’s remained resolutely and immovably himself.

Outspoken creativity fueled by hope – that’s always been Moby’s mission, and today that mission has landed with powerful purpose.

In support of his upcoming album These Systems Are Failing, which also finds him debuting as Moby & The Void Pacific Choir, the iconic artist has partnered with BitTorrent to release audio and video selections from the project, beginning with today’s drop.

This release marks Moby’s second release with BitTorrent following 2013’s Innocents campaign. That project was downloaded nearly 9 million times and once again helped push the future into the present by providing a blueprint for albums that were constantly evolving, often outside of the artist’s control (see also, Kanye West’s “The Life of Pablo”).

Our best choices are killing us.
All brokenness comes from separation.
We’re destroying the world, and we’re still miserable.
Fat, sick, stupid and anxious are no ways to live.
These systems are failing.
Let them fail.
Change or die.

The words of These Systems Are Failing conjures up images of broken social, political, technological and physical safety nets, but ultimately Moby’s message is one of human connection, of hope and love in the face of those who profit through dehumanization The systems may have failed us, but let us not fail each other. It’s music both from and of our times, and music that could have only come from Moby & The Void Pacific Choir, an artist who’s been many things but always only one thing – fearlessly human.
