Killswitch: Screening and Panel Debate at BitTorrent HQ
2014/12/09

The team behind the upcoming Internet freedom doc share the new film in an open discussion with Techdirt, EFF, Engine, and more.

The last days of 2014 also, in some ways, feel like the last days of the Internet. Our network is under attack. Basic human rights online have been threatened by surveillance and censorship. Net neutrality legislation has stalled, but hasn’t stopped. It’s possible that the doors to the open Internet could close, for good.

Over the course of the past two years, Akorn has documented the battle for the Internet. Killswitch is the true story of the web’s hacktivist movement, in the words of Aaron Swartz, Edward Snowden, Lawrence Lessig, Tim Wu, and Peter Ludlow.

On Wednesday, we’ll be holding a special screening of the film at BitTorrent in conversation with a panel of experts, including Mike Masnick (Techdirt), Rainey Reitman (EFF), Evan Engstrom (Engine), and our own Eric Klinker. In addition to watching (and discussing) the film, we’ll talk about the the shifting landscape of privacy, surveillance, and free speech online — and what each of us can do to protect these freedoms.

We’ll be live-tweeting the discussion for everyone who can’t attend. Stay tuned. More about Killswitch here.
