Counting Crows

Ever had a question for Adam Duritz, lead singer of Counting Crows? Now is your chance to ask it!

Tomorrow at 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. EST, UTC -8), BitTorrent will host an exclusive Twitter interview with the legendary musicians. See below for details on how to join in the fun.

The event is part of a promotional partnership with BitTorrent. If you didn’t see it, today we released a special BitTorrent Bundle of four tracks off the new album plus album artwork. To download it, all you need to do is visit here.

Ever since they made a significant impact on modern rock culture with their melancholy yet captivating 1994 debut album, August and Everything After, Counting Crows have enjoyed a great amount of success to this day. Their new album, Underwater Sunshine, just went live a few weeks ago and the reception has been fantastic.

So, what is a Twitterview? Simply put, it’s a two-way dialogue where BitTorrent will ask the band questions…YOUR questions. Think of something, anything, you’ve been dying to ask and it could get posed to them in a public forum! We’ll take your questions to Twitter, where you can follow along as we ask the band your pressing questions like, for example, “what song(s) do you wish you could cover?”

Starting tomorrow at 1 p.m. PST, follow Counting Crows (@countingcrows) and BitTorrent (@BitTorrent) for the entire Q&A session or track the designated hashtag, #crowchat. Please post any questions you have for the band in advance and cc @BitTorrent, along with your Twitter handle so we can give you credit in a follow-up post, in the comments section below or on our Facebook wall.

Good luck and thank you for participating!

  3. Deborah says:

So many bands disappear, breakup, or loose their core fan base. How have you managed to stay significant and together for 20 years?

  4. Sharon Wendt says:

I simply would just like to met Adam….any chance of this?….thanks for singing to me for many years :) ……xoxo

    • kara3murphy says:

Hi Sharon, got your comments (and Tweets!). Unfortunately, we can’t help you with meeting Adam but if you do have a question about Counting Crows or their music, you’re welcome to ask. :)

  5. diane says:

Last year travelled from UK to Washington to see you, 2 years before that went to Texas – this is costing me a fortune! – when are you coming to the UK?

    • kara3murphy says:

Hi Diane, we’ve gotten a few of these. Seems like the demand is high for the UK. :) Thank you for asking.

  6. busymom says:

Adam:A few years ago we met in a long hallway before your show. With thousands in the building, you and I were the only two in that hall. Everything I wanted to say, feel, or do went through me like wildfire. As you walked towards me, I couldn’t move. You slowed down only to look me in the eye and gently smile. In that moment it was like you knew and I told you everything without talking at all. Sometimes you say that you don’t remember the tours, the crowds, or the relationships.Trust me, you were there in that moment. As you get older, wiser, and are feeling a bit better..do think that YOU are able to connect with the fans more? You never seem to look into the seats. See you 7/22 I’ll be the blond in the third row… waiting for another smile

    • kara3murphy says:

Hi Busymom, that’s quite a question. Will probably need to scale this down a bit if we have time to ask. :) Enjoy the show on the 22nd!

  7. Shawna (@shawna74) says:

Love that you give younger/other bands exposure. It seems like your way of ‘giving back’ to something you are so passionate about. Also love that you encourage voting regardless of ones political stance and invite pubic/fan base with creative challenges with album covers. I’m enamored by your embrace of social media and acceptance of a technology that has been viewed unfortunate, ultimately using it to your/our advantage. I find your actions completely selfless, creative and brilliant. I’d love to meet your parents. I can’t help but conclude that they are the root of your ‘muchness’ – agree?

    • kara3murphy says:

Hi Shawna, thanks for commenting. I’ll have to scale this down a bit but hopefully we can squeeze it in to today’s chat. :)

      • Shawna (@shawna74) says:

Here’s a shorter version: Your willingness to give, share & embrace new technology is selfless, creative & brilliant. Do you credit your parents to this passion? I’d love to meet them!
        Dang still to long…ok:
@BitTorrent @countingcrows I find your actions selfless, creative & brilliant. Do u credit your parents? Pls tell them Thank You! #crowchat

  8. Bryon says:

As I sit here, looking at my ridiculous bootleg collection. My very first bootleg that I bought was Counting Crows, “Sleeping in a Perfect Blue” from the Palladium Theater in Rome 4/28/94 CD (paid like $25). Do you remember the very first bootleg that you bought from a record store? Who was it and was it a CD, Vinyl or Tape?

    • Bryon says:

My favorite story that you told was at the Target Center in Minneapolis circa 1997, you were talking about being at the First Avenue? looking at bootlegs. You said you could buy a hot dog and a bootleg and that the record company would come down there and kill everyone. Classic story. My good friend Brian (verdiboy) recorded that show.

    • kara3murphy says:

Great question(s), Bryon! Thank you so much.

  9. Sharon Wendt says:

    Oppps…my twitter handle…sharonw58….just in case ;) …xoxo

What’s next for the band after this upcoming summer tour?

  11. Rob says:

    Hi Adam.

Please talk a little about the covers contest you held. There were some great entries in there from people of all ages, including some very young ones, which is great to see!

  12. Gina says:

I love the new covers CD, and this is probably a very common question, but have you been writing recently? Any new material in the works?

  13. Before Underwater, Adam released a mini solo album, while Jim and Dan made a record with Tender Mercies – this these ‘side projects’ have a major influence on Underwater?

  14. Andrew says:

    @AndrewPacheco13

What ever happened to the studio version of “Suffocate” you guys were recording for SNSM? Will we ever get to hear a studio version?? Tired of listening to a poorly recorded live version of an awesome song!

    • Bryon says:

I don’t know, the live recording of the Hollywood Grand show is pretty darn good unless you have the “Newest Arrivals” bootleg which is really bass heavy but still good. That was my 3rd bootleg I bought and most likely the most sought after since it was a preview to RTS. I was dying to hear those new songs and shelled out a lot for that. I was dissapointed in the sound quality but I just cranked it up and that probably didn’t leave my car for a year. Though I wouldn’t mind hearing a studio cut. :)

  15. *did these, and MauriceGoodwin2 is my twitter!

  16. Ryan says:

Were there any covers that you wanted to record for the new album that never made it on? Also, are there any that ARE recorded that just aren’t on the album? Thanks!

  17. Tina Ayers says:

Professionally, if you could start all over what would you change? G

  18. Kayla says:

No TV promo for this album (late night, morning shows, etc)? Why, because it’s a covers album or because the record company supplies that? Thanks, I love the new album!!

  19. Jack says:

How do the bigger name acts on your tours get chosen (Maroon 5, Goo Goo Dolls, etc)? Also, have you ever considered touring with Dashboard Confessional?

  20. Jimmy says:

How long will Counting Crows play for on this summer’s tour?

  21. Lisa says:

What ever happened to your record label, Tyrannosaurus Records?

  22. Ben Tall says:

Hello Adam! Why did you take away the message boards on the official site? Any plans on getting them back?

  23. Chris Silverman says:

Adam, are you aware of fan sites that exist such as crows-town.com, annabegins.com, and even @CrowSetlists, a Twitter page that posts the set list from each night’s show? What are your thoughts on sites such as these?

  24. Adam O'Neill says:

    What happened to “Freeloaders???”

  25. Shelly Costa says:

Why is “Millers Angels” never played live? Please bring it back!

  26. Amy (Hit the atmosphere) says:

Any plans on a special release or something for the 20th anniversary of your first album/rise to fame next year? Album of B-Sides or rarities or something?

    Thank you.

  27. Anonymous says:

I am loving the new record VERY much, but I must ask.. what are the odds that we can get a new Counting Crows album out before 2015? I hate to ask for a timeframe but we’re anxious!

  28. Anonymous says:

What would be your 5 ‘desert island’ records?

  29. Alex Sampson says:

Do you think being independent will speed up the process of releasing new music and such because you have the freedom to release whatever you want at any time, or do you think it will slow it down? How will you take advantage of the limitless possibilities of the internet after you write and record some new music?

  30. David Briggs says:

In your eyes, what does the future of the music industry/record companies look like?

  31. diane says:

when you coming to UK – been there twice to see you -costing a fortune in flights. Puyallup and Maryhill awesome

  32. Sean h says:

How do you warm up your voice before shows/studio sessions?
    Thank u

  33. Brian Zisk says:

Adam, congratulations on all the success.

Might you be able to join us to participate at the SF MusicTech Summit which will take place on October 9th at San Francisco’s Hotel Kabuki?

All the best, and hope you can make it.

Would you please consider covering Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison? And thanks for your time :)

    • kara3murphy says:

Sorry we couldn’t get to your question. We simply had too many. Hopefully we’ll be working with Counting Crows again in the near future, though.

Got something to say? Go for it!
