µTorrent 3.0 Goes Stable – Streaming, Remote + More

µTorrent 3.0 is officially live! Here’s the press release.

First, many thanks to the 4+ million µTorrent users who pitched in and tested the beta. Your feedback was a significant contribution to the final product. We all really appreciate it.

Before we get to the good stuff (features list below), we also launched a new beta app today, called µChat. µChat enables real-time chat with other BitTorrent users around the world, directly within your software. Details here, or check it out in the App Studio.

What’s new in µTorrent 3.0?

Streaming

Watch videos within seconds with our progressive downloads – no need to wait for the entire file to download.  This feature is especially great for previewing a file before committing to the full download.

To use this feature, simply click the streaming button when it appears in the Playback column within the Torrents tab.

Requirements: Your video player must support streaming, and not all file types are stream-able by all players.

µTorrent Remote

Start, stop, and monitor torrent downloads on the go. Access your client from any Web browser (go to remote.utorrent.com or hit the remote icon in the µTorrent toolbar to sign up). Or, download the beta of our Android app.

Ratings and Comments

Ratings enables the collective wisdom of the community to ensure the quality and security of downloaded torrents. Join in and contribute by simply clicking on the ratings or comment buttons in your torrent manager.

Drag-and-Drop Sending

Easily send massive personal files – e.g. home movies, cell phone videos and hi-res photos –directly from µTorrent. Select a file on your computer, drag it into the µTorrent “Drop files to send” box and µTorrent will create a Web link. When you share this link with others through things like e-mail or social media post, you share your personal files.

Simplified UI

Keep your client simple by minimizing parts of the µT interface with a click. Perfect for anybody who wants a minimal interface, this feature cuts out distractions and lets you focus on the business of finding, getting and playing content.

Portable Mode

Load µTorrent on a USB stick and take it wherever you go, without leaving files behind!  Simply run the new µTorrent from a USB stick, choose portable mode during install, and µTorrent will automatically store your settings and content on the USB stick – even if the computer you’re using already has µTorrent installed.  No muss, no fuss.

Stability etc.

µTorrent 3.0 also offers under-the-hood improvements including a focus on stability as well as improved Web seeding to add speed and reliability to the process of finding the original source of a single-source file.

More Apps:

µChat! Download it now. We can’t wait to hear what you think of this one.

Plus, check out some of our recent artist spotlights. The spooky horror film The Tunnel (IMdb) has been a huge hit, as has Sick of Sarah’s 2205 album. Both of these, and more, are available in the App Studio free with the endorsement of the creators. Please join us and support progressive artists who support BitTorrent.

  1. kwxl says:

Nice features… will we see them on the OS X Client anytime soon?

    • bts says:

@kwxl Sorry but uTorrent 3.0 and the future versions will not be developed for OS X.

      • Slayer925 says:

Wow. When you say “future versions” you mean all of them? ¿?¿?

uTorrent for Mac is the best choice, simple and full functionally. I’m glad with that, but I was hopping new versions improving it… like a chat to talk with peers and seeds, by example : )

      • BN says:

Of course development of OS X versions of µTorrent continue. Feature parity is the goal.

  2. Женька says:

    Great job! Thx you guys!

  3. Stewart Hurry says:

I tried Utorrent3 but did not like the fixed icons or the inability to download alternatives straight from the app centre as I used to be able to. Loved the streaming idea.

I terminated 3 because I had two crashes while customizing the interface, one involving terminating current downloads, did a system restore and recovered my downloads, but thought I should give 3 a bit of time to stabilize.

My computer is a custom made, very stable Win7pro platform, and I never have problems so I feel that 3 is not as stable as you would hope. Having said that, I sincelerely appreciate how many improveme3nts are in 3, and very mucyh look forward to trying it again, say in about a month.

  4. Bob says:

There should be an option to disable the category tab permanently. Also bring back the old tabs like speed guide, trackers, pieces, logger, etc.

This new version is 2 steps backwards in the interface department, but a step forward with features for the most part.

  5. RishiArora says:

The update thingy shows it to be up to date at 2.2.1

  6. LM says:

    Impressive update.

  7. JakobD says:

I need this features on OS X :’(

  8. can i use u torrent on my windows 7 ?????????????

    if yes can u reply

    regads,
    saravana kumar

  9. Ivan says:

I have just started to use it. A great fault is that I can’t see the ratio. Where is it?

  10. Sivakumar says:

    Great work Folks!

  11. Transmission says:

OS X version is appalling compared to Windows

it would not come out that would not change much

have to go to the preferences changed each time the destination folder, you can not choose or registered as Windows do know

  12. Quick question about drag and drop sending – does this feature create a torrent, share it with a public link, and host it from the uTorrent’s tracker?

I really just want to know, is this private, or shared through the Pirate Bay or another public tracker for example?

  13. максим says:

    спасибо

  14. Alex says:

…utorrent 3.0 it’s too simple…the interface is designed child like and can’t get acces to some cruciall information so i don’t like 3.0

  15. Umigum says:

I’m not so satisfied. Emsisoft Anti-Malware is constantly blocking a tracking cookie referring to localhost. What does utorrent 3 do there? How can I disable it. I don’t want it. And it comes from utorrent 3 because it Anti-Malware stops showing pop-ups when utorrent 3 is turned off.

  16. George says:

Great job guys. I hope to see an updated OSX version soon. Thanks!

  17. Shubham Verma says:

    Tnx 4 the advanced features.!!

  18. qmal says:

The bar on the left and bottom that I cannot hide is stupid, I always liked how uTorent was minified if I configured it and hide category, advanced tabs, but now it looks like crap. Please enable hiding those panels…

    • archipman says:

you want the left column and bottom “tab list” to disappear? Find double arrow at top of left column and right top side of bottom tab feature… and click. Hope I understood your question?!
      Cheers/out

  19. gbleezy says:

Oh wow! Looks like a very exciting update they’ve pushed here, can’t wait to try it all out! I really made use of the previous WebUI feature from my phone and this uTorrent Remote app, thus far, looks like a promising upgrade! Also, I can’t wait to utilized the Drag & Drop ‘file sharing’ feature!! For years I have been trying to expose people to this idea of “User Friendliness” and intuitive UI design and just how far we are from where some people think we’re at – As I pose such a thought like, “Say you have one large 2GB+ saved file that you have to send somebody – and that ‘somebody’ has no email.” The ‘no email’ clause is mostly to throw off newbs and make them think how hard that would be for them…where as the more seasoned may be quick to suggest “Cloud-based” solutions (most likely accompanied by the need for archival chunking), IM protocols/clients (which I (the sender) doesn’t use), or setting up an FTP/HTTP Daemon of some kind; all of which seem like just way more work than a task of this magnitude should require of us these days here in 2011!!

Anyways, love to see the progress! If there’s anything a simple end-user can do inorder to contribute to the cause here just let me know! I’m currently looking to take advantage of all features you have to offer and have made available!

  20. tomtom says:

  21. abdul basit qureshi says:

  22. Amit says:

I can’t install the new version of utorrent…
When I run the file,a window pops up asking me if I want to run the file, and after i click run, nothing happens….
    Can somebody help me????

  23. Inzemam says:

3.0 is working good on my pc…
New release is highly appreciated :)

  24. marvenniffi says:

That’s awesome. I just started using LinkedIn and I’m very excited about making those connections.

  25. thiaw says:

je veux telecharger gta san andreas comment on telecharge gt

  26. jeru says:

i had a problem using the application, it states that a Runtime error occured at Line 46, and it wishes me to debug. What should i do?

  27. Rockworth says:

The new speed graph on 3.0 sucks. The older version with a black background was better and a cant locate the setting where i can fix that!

  28. zafer says:

New version permanently resisted to ask me which files I want to download. It started to download all files in torrents without letting me if I want to choose them. I turn back to version 2. It was nice version 3 away from this feature.

  29. philnich says:

Completed on used to show the date and time, now it shows shit info such as 3 months ago…. not very useful. Why not give an option to show real values rather than approximate info

    • ElectroNomad says:

I too found this to be very annoying. However you can change it.
      Options/Preferences/Advanced/gui.use_fuzzy_dates

Change it to false and you will get back your normal date/time

  30. immmi says:

can’t get the executable to run. could this have something to do with having IE9 installed?

  31. nasir khan says:

trying to install 3.0, it hangs, not responding. I have deinstall norton virus protection, disable firewall and download new utorrent 3.0 any seggessions? I am running windows xp sp2

  32. Larry says:

The streaming feature is nice. However, the light colors and white background combine to make the UI very unpleasant and difficult to use on multiple tabs. I would love to see a return to the color scheme used in 2.0, or at least an advanced option to allow this. I might just uninstall and then re-install 2.0 just to go back to a GUI that is more usable.

  33. Fred Sanford says:

3.0 came as a surprise. I’m not seeing the trackers tab. The upload rate limit is having problems. It appears to be not working at all, thrashing up to the data rate limits of the ISP connection and collapsing down to near 0 as it regroups.
What happened to the gear icon? (preferences)

  34. Riddermark says:

I hate the fact that I can’t sort my torrents by date added as I used to be able to.

    What’s up with that?

Or am I missing some setting? If not bring that back!

  35. saman says:

how can i put in the queue while i m downloading the one file n just to start the other as it ends …….

  36. jayjay says:

Utorrent streaming sucks; I’m downloading a 720p movie that will finish downloading COMPLETELY in only 30 minutes @ 1.7MB/s NOT mbps. Utorrent fails to download the movie incrementally and is just downloading it in random pieces; therefore, it doesnt stream. Why would they even call it streaming. It is NO different than not streaming. I could watch it in VLC without using a loopback (http://127.0.0.1) url and get the same results.

  37. walter says:

Visually 3 is nice, BUT I have had continuous problems with it still running after being closed. this partial shutdown then won’t allow a new session to start. the app is closed, but sure enough, in task manager, there it still is. this has now happened a dozen times, after re-booting, etc. so getting a bit frustrated. I just removed it, and will try a clean install from scratch, rather than an update, maybe that will fix it. running XP. up til now (v3), it has been great.

  38. Such a detailed post! wanna try this for my streaming.

  39. Just started using Bit Torrent. After the download the remark is that its “seeding”. What does that mean? Also, will the video be available right away after the progress bar is fully green. Will the video show up on my desktop? How can I view it using Mac programs?

  40. David C. says:

    I am using Utorrent 3.0 (build 25824)

    Logger mentioned that

    1) File not found during integrity check C:user…..AppDataRoamingutorrentwebcahche.dat.

    2) some of my upload torrents : Banning peer.same peer id as existing peer

  41. Nitzy says:

Any chance for µTorrent Remote app for iPhone?

  42. brett says:

Can you tell me how to get rid of utorrent I can’t seem to get it out of my system? It’s not in my control panel.”HELP”

  43. ThePanna38 says:

I hope the disk overload bug is fixed!

  44. mimi says:

    cool version nice work…..

  45. Craig says:

The stop button doesn’t work after downloading.I have to turn the computer off and back on before I can get finished to display.
The auto shut down gets to 1 second and hangs.

  46. parfumuri says:

any chance to get a native 64-bit version at some point?

  47. SultanAslanov says:

Я еще не испытал в полном обьеме эту программу,но я уже удовлетворен её возможностями, СПАСИБО

  48. I terminated 3 because I had two crashes while customizing the interface, one involving terminating current downloads, did a system restore and recovered my downloads, but thought I should give 3 a bit of time to stabilize.

  49. That’s a nice post.
